The Law of Attraction

This is something that has been hailed as the "greatest secret of mankind". Do a search for information on it and check out thesecret.tv. There is a lot of hype surrounding this theory at the moment and I wanted to see what people think about it.

The basic theory is that whatever you think about, you attract into your life. Whether it is good or bad, the universe doesn't care, it just delivers it because you are giving it energy. As an example if you want an amazing car, imagine you already have it, feel it in every way, test drive it, focus your mind as if you owned it, and the universe will align itself so that you get the car. I've always dismissed this kind of theory of "wishful thinking" because I'm extremely rational. However there has been some startling scientific evidence to support it. It's all to do with quantum physics and energy, again, look it up.

I think it could be very related to transhumanism because if we are really all energy, maybe we have a lot more power already than we think we do.

I know people who are finding a lot of success from the law of attraction. I'm working on it myself but not getting many results just yet because I'm not really that focussed on it yet, but I am definately seeing the benefits of a positive outlook. A positive outlook keeps me happy and keeps me thinking about what I DO want, rather than what I don't, so I'm giving my energy to keep good things happening.

Let me know what you think on the theory and what you think it means for human beings. I'm becoming convinced by it and it could be the biggest thing to hit mankind.

Idiot. What is this crap? Hey, quantum physics guy, is a lepton a fermion or boson? You don't know because you don't know or care for science. Go.

Whoa, Cybert. That's pretty harsh. I'm not one for mumbo jumbo either, but perhaps we can be more open. At the very least, in this case, you could imagine evidence against this theory. If it materialized, you'd prove the theory wrong. If it didn't, you would have also proven it wrong.

More seriously, Cemiess, what evidence could anyone possibly gather to prove this theory correct or incorrect?

I think the power of positive thinking helps only insofar as it compels a person to work to achieve something.

The world doesn't give you a car just because you chant, "Give me a car, give me a car." You *may* get a car, if the chant of "give me a car, give me a car," compels you to go out and break your back making the money to buy that really nice car you've been dreaming of. Let's not confuse cause and effect here.

While it probably doesn't deserve such massive insult, this kind of thinking is potentially dangerous in that it can cause people to be assigned responsibility for bad luck - "you made that happen with your negative thoughts." It won't do so in all cases, but it can happen.

Cybert you're not welcome to comment on my blog if you're going to throw personal insults at me and not address the topic in question. Try re-reading the blog to determine my reasons for me posting it. It is to promote discussion on the topic not to attract insults from people who disagree with it. I never said that I agreed with it - I want to know what people think. Also don't insult my intelligence by asking me simple questions about the fundamentals of quantum physics, surely if you knew anything worth knowing on the topic you would have asked me something a little more difficult than that.

Getting back to the theory itself, I agree that it sounds far fetched and you need to know a lot more about it than what I've written, but there are people falling over themselves to explain it and will do a much better job than me. I found this blog quite interesting: http://powerto.wordpress.com/2006/08/01/nobel-prize-winning-evidence-of-what-a-human-mind-does-do-you-know/

There is more to it than wishful thinking and cause and effect. It's about you shaping the world around you with your mind. It begs a lot of philosophical questions as well as scientific ones.

I neither agree or disagree with the ideas, I want to know what people WHO KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT THEM think about the subject. I thought I'd find some on this site, but it's not looking likely. I don't blame people for being rational, but not to the point of dismissing things because they can't yet be explained. I'm really looking for some of this scientific evidence.

Maybe anyone interested can do some more research into the subject and get back to me with some relevant points? As I find out more I will add to this blog.

So far science has found no method by which the mind may affect reality, outside the brain, directly.

So far no evidence for telekenisis, telepathy, second sight, precognition, clarivoyance, ESP, etc. etc. etc. has been found. The search continuing though. Perhaps one day we will.

I'm really playing Devil's advocate here as I agree in hard science, but there is no satisfactory explanation for these things either! This is why they remain enigmatic. I believe science will find the answers but not if we  keep dismissing things that seem far fetched.

Just read the "Attraction Accleration Report" in which Bob Procter reveals more of his thought-provoking theories on the Law of Attraction.
