Wow! Thats a project I haven't heard about yet.. interesting...

Looks eerily like Kevin Spacey tho.

It's face, before it moves, looks very lifelike. The wobbliness, twitches and tentative movements also very convincingly staged. They are getting better at this, definitely. I wonder if the movement algorithms the researchers wrote up for this puppet can be easily transferred to CG animation.

But its voice spoils it. You can tell it being played over speakers. Human voice quality is strongly influenced by bone conduction and the meat surrounding the larynx, chest and head.  They'll need to work on that. They got to figure out a way to put that speaker inside ballistic gel or something so you've got all the vibrating meatlike resonances going on.

And of course the actual content of its speech is wince inducing! But that's a problem for AI research.

But minor compliants aside, it's a worthy effort!
